The 5th Annual Light Up Estero, the Village of Estero’s Christmas Tree lighting celebration, was presented by the Rotary Club of Estero on Dec. 1, 2018, at Estero Community Park. Attendees were treated to the musical talents of the New Horizons of Southwest Florida Children’s Choir and the Three Oaks Middle School Jazz Band and enjoyed a group sing-along. Proceeds from sponsorships and a raffle of 15 holiday wreaths support scholarships for Estero High School students. The three recipients of last year’s Light Up Estero scholarships were honored. The highlight of the evening was Santa and Mrs. Claus arriving by firetruck courtesy of Estero Fire Rescue.

The 9th Annual “Night at the Nest” was held on Nov. 30, 2018, at Alico Arena on the campus of Florida Gulf Coast University. The sell-out crowd of 800 was treated to appetizers, an open bar and a sit-down dinner. There was an amazing array of silent auction items, as well as a live auction called by Jay Severson. Live items included a VIP Masters experience, a private concert by the Ben Allen Band and a Napa Valley experience. Student athletes set tables, served meals, cleared tables and helped identify bidders. WINK TV’s Lois Thome served as event emcee.

Starting with the Estero High School ROTC presenting the colors, this high-paced celebration featured a military theme song tribute, a 21- gun salute and Taps, and a keynote address by Major General James Dozier. The highlight was patriotic and popular musical selections performed by Estero’s own Lindsey Graham.
