The Rotary Club of Estero’s Inaugural 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, October 26 was a success! 171 participants, numerous vendors and lots of volunteers including Rotarians, FGCU students and Lead Estero students, helped make this event possible. Pizza, ice cream, candy, Halloween photo booth, pint glass awards, medals and raffle prizes were all greatly received. The estimated $6,000 in net proceeds will benefit the local organization Kids’ Minds Matter. Congratulations to Ben Szuhaj for placing first in this inaugural race.

There was something for everyone at this year’s Veterans Day celebration at Estero Community Park: free hot dogs, chips & cookies, face painting for children, an American classic and muscle car show, mini-musicals featuring songs reminiscent of World War II, the Korean, Vietnam and Gulf Wars, and an endearing performance by the New Horizons of Southwest Florida Children’s Choir.
District 5 Councilmember Rafael Lopez served as master of ceremonies, Mayor Jon McLain gave a warm welcome, and U.S. Congressman Byron Daniels gave an inspiring speech before introducing the esteemed keynote speaker Lt. Gen. Gary Speer. Approximately 500 residents were in attendance to pay tribute to our veterans, active military, first responders and Gold Star families.
