New turf field at Jeff Sommer StadiumThe Village of Estero is proud to “kick off” its collaboration with the Lee County School District to enhance, maintain and program the Estero Sports Park beginning on August 1. The Village of Estero has committed to various improvements throughout the sports complex, the first of which includes a new, turf field for the Jeff Sommer Stadium at Estero High School.

This year’s t will be held on Aug. 23, 2024, prior to the 7:30 p.m. kick off of the Wildcats’ home opener against the Riverdale Raiders. Celebratory festivities will begin at 5 p.m. with food trucks and music in a tailgate atmosphere prior to the ribbon cutting and opening remarks from Village of Estero and school officials.

In 2024, the Village of Estero entered into a 99-year lease agreement with the Lee County School District, in which the Village will invest $10 million over the next five years to enhance the Jeff Sommer Stadium, existing fields, facilities and hard courts, while also creating green space and walking trails. This collaborative effort sets the stage for a win-win-win situation for the Village, the school district and the community.

Ribbon Cutting for Jeff Sommer StadiumIn the coming months, the Village will start programming sports, recreation and family entertainment events for everyone in the Estero community to enjoy with no additional costs to the school district or to Estero residents. The Village will assume all operational, maintenance and activation responsibilities of the sports park campus beginning this month, with priority given to Estero High School interscholastic sports teams per its shared use agreement with the Lee County School District.

Contractor Hellas Construction began working on the brand-new turf football field in April 2024 and is on track to be completed this month. The new field consists of Ecotherm Infill, providing dramatic surface temperature reduction and requiring no water. Ecotherm is made from recycled materials and cellulose fibers capturing ambient moisture from the air, creating an evaporative cooling effect for the turf system and temperature reductions up to 30 degrees. This enhancement is critical in the Southwest Florida climate.
