Some of you will remember this old song from the past. If refers to the impact that the rains of spring have had on flowers and the many creatures that are part of our environment.
In SW Florida, it signals the beginning of our rainy season and the good cleansing we will experience, leaving everything shiny and lush. This also brings up the humidity which gives us an additional excuse to playfully enjoy the beaches and pools with all of their related activities.
While we are contemplating the summer months, let me remind you of the hundreds of families locally that struggle between the end of school year and the fall. For some, hours at jobs are cut back and the kids can no longer depend on their nutrition coming from school. Many turn to local charities and food banks to get by. If you have the time, treasure and/or resources to help out, it will be most appreciated. The need to ‘make a difference’ runs year round!!
As many of you know, Dr. Wilson Bradshaw, President of FGCU will be retiring and leaving at the end of June. We sat down with him recently and he shared his many memories and accomplishments along with remembrances from faculty, staff and students. He will be missed.
What is the significance of the number 9??? Well, in Estero (SW Florida) it represents the jersey number of retired, Florida Everblades hockey sensation and Estero resident, Ernie Hartlieb. Since having his number retired a couple of seasons ago, his bride, Miranda, has opened a resale shop in honor of her husband’s number called Nine Resale Boutique. Our cover story gives you the inside details.
Our dining feature uncovers a wonderful restaurant with a French flair, known as C Level. It is tucked away in a rather small, unassuming plaza on Bonita Beach Rd., west of US 41. Enter it into your GPS and discover it for yourselves. Worth the effort!!
Fashion is the next of our quarterly features. We feature fashions from Evelyn & Arthur (Promenade) and Blanc du Nil (Miromar Outlets). Many of you will recognize one of our fashion models, Estero resident, Bonnie Maas. Beautiful job!!
Our most significant “happening” this month is the Estero Chamber of Commerce Annual Luncheon taking place on June 16, 2017 at the Hyatt Coconut Point Resort. Trish Leonard of TLC Marketing & Creative Services is chairing the event, so expect the best!!! Details are available on the “Happenings” page!! Hope you will plan to join us.
And of course, look for our Best Bets, Village Life and popular ‘Scene Pages’.
Finally, we want to wish all the fathers out there a very happy Father’s Day. Remember, you are vital to the development of your children (grandchildren) – even those of you who “step in” for someone else’s children. How many times do we hear the words, “He was like a father to me”? They only serve to demonstrate your value to so many.
As always…Life is GOOD!!!
