J Alexanders Interior

J. Alexander’s restaurant has arrived in north Naples, and judging from the packed house during our visit, locals and seasonal tourists alike are clamoring for a table. The original concept, which opened in the early 1990s in Nashville, has experienced great success over the years, with 42 locations in 16 states.

J. Alexander’s is an upscale, contemporary American restaurant known for its wood-fired American cuisine including prime rib of beef, top quality hand-cut steaks, and a wide array of fresh seafood, sandwiches and entrée salads, crafted with choice ingredients by meticulous culinary experts.

General Manager Kyle Beach has been with “J” (as he calls it) for 10 years, starting as a server and bartender, then opening up a few locations as a corporate trainer before working his way to executive chef in the Palm Beach Gardens location for four years. He is proud of J. Alexander’s commitment to quality and attention to detail across the board – from steaks to spirits to service.

“All of the food we make is focused around the live hardwood grill using hickory wood,” said Beach.
You won’t see too many locations cropping up at once, as each J. Alexander’s restaurant goes to great lengths to ensure proper training and adherence to the core philosophy of providing the highest possible quality dining experience.

“Opening one or two locations per year, we can afford to bring in all of the corporate chefs and the support staff for a month at a time and have a proper opening to keep the high standards we hold,” said Beach.

The newest location in north Naples is the seventh in Florida. The building that formerly housed the long-standing Italian restaurant Buca Di Beppo was gutted and completely revamped to fit the J. Alexander’s vision. The renovated space has 80 tables, including a small outdoor patio and a private dining room that will be available in early May for as many as 24 guests, and a large, eye-catching bar at the center of it all.

The menu at J. Alexander’s consists of classic, first-rate steakhouse fare with a modern touch. Specialties, which are known as “features” include Mr. Jack’s Crispy Chicken Platter, a South Carolina low-country recipe, and Blackened Snapper in a cajun-style Tasso cream sauce.

The wine list is impressive as well, with a well-rounded variety of reds and whites from around the world, and an array of unique cocktails like the Doppleganger, featuring Angel’s Envy Bourbon, Disaronno, candied cherry and ginger ale.

J. Alexander’s is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The modern and inviting atmosphere, paired with high-quality cuisine and impeccable “seasoned” service, is the perfect place to enjoy your next lunch or dinner.

Fire-Grilled Artichokes — Large whole artichokes, grilled in the wood stove and drizzled with J. Alexander’s signature remoulade, a homemade dill tartar sauce. If Nonna didn’t make these for you growing up, your server will describe the artichokes as best eaten from the outer leaves in, scraping the goodness with your teeth, but not consuming the actual leaf.

Key Lime Pie

Key Lime Pie — It’s not easy to stand out among the Key Lime competition with all of the options in Florida, but J. Alexander’s Key Lime pie does exactly that. The creamy filling is the perfect blend of tangy and sweet, and the candied graham crust is a unique and superb complement. While the restaurant is well-known for its carrot cake, this pie stands alone.
