Commitment is the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause or activity. All of us have made a variety of commitments over our lifetimes, and we know the great feelings we experience when we take those critical steps toward honoring and fulfilling our commitments. We also appreciate those people who display the integrity to “do what they say they are going to do” (and we feel disappointment when they don’t follow through).

Just as Estero Life Magazine has strived to honor our commitment of showcasing the positives of the people, places and events emanating from our incredible community in the Village of Estero, this month’s edition shines a light on others who have found their passions and made commitments to their causes.

Our cover story introduces you to Fort Myers native Amber Cebull, who founded Gather Beverage Company with veteran chef and co-owner . They are creating non-alcoholic beverages that are more complex than the standard “mocktails” by using functional herbs and adaptogens to support the body’s ability to cope with stress and help with overall wellbeing. Imagine a cocktail that is actually good for you!

Many of their award-winning elixirs provide an excellent base for any cocktail and allow them to honor their commitment to helping people maintain a healthier lifestyle. Perhaps even more impressive than their enthusiasm for personal health is the company’s commitment to sustainability as they brew in small batches without industrialized bulk waste, recycle their bottles locally and compost the herbs they use. We invite you to explore this concept, which is also currently being used at Lee Health Coconut Point’s Healthy Life Center for its “” events.

The Village of Estero is honoring its commitments to local youth, Lee County Schools and the residents of our community as they look forward to the dedication of the new Jeff Sommer Stadium at Estero High School. This month’s Village Connection gives you the details as we invite everyone come out and cheer on the Estero Wildcats at their home opener on August 23! This should be an exciting event for everyone in our community.

Next, allow us to introduce 11-year-old Estero resident and Pinewoods Elementary School fifth grader, whose dedication and commitment propelled her to be crowned Miss Preteen Legacy USA at a recent pageant in Orlando. The competition based on fun fashion, evening gown and interviews earned her the opportunity to attend New York Fashion Week. One of the most significant requirements of her participation is to develop a platform to advocate for a chosen initiative, demonstrating commitment to community. Kennedy’s platform for the upcoming year showcases her passion for encouraging young girls to make healthier choices for their lives. We look forward to hopefully having an opportunity to hear her speak in our area.

One thing that requires tremendous dedication and commitment is opening a new restaurant during challenging economic times. That is just what Illinois restaurateur Salvador Munoz and his friend Carlos Angel did when they premiered their new concept, Unidos, in Naples this past January. At Unidos, Peruvian, Colombian, Argentinian and Mexican flavors are combined to deliver the best of the best in flavor! We are sure you will be both amazed and delighted at the array of fresh seafood, meats and creative cocktails.

We encourage you to visit while our seasonal residents are still up north, as this restaurant is sure to grow quickly in popularity!

Until next time, remember to…

Enjoy the Good Life, Estero Life!!
