As we head into the sometimes oppressive month of August we have the choice to either fight it or embrace it. I suggest that we embrace it! After all, there is great momentum to be found this time of year. August is much more than just escaping the heat and humidity, constantly moving between air conditioning and the pool.

In the midst of baseball rainouts, soggy golf greens and mosquitos, we should keep in mind the many positives about this time of year. Although the difference between high and low seasons grows less and less each year, it is still slightly easier to navigate our roads this time of year. And how about getting a reservation at your favorite restaurants? I am sure that is much easier as well. Everything from kayaking on the Estero River to enjoying the Everglades Wonder Gardens, to the Naples Zoo or grabbing a hot dog and beer at a Miracle baseball game, we can pretty much do what we enjoy without a hassle.

August also marks the beginning of classes for Lee County Schools. I am sure that this is something at least the parents are embracing!!! It will be great to once again experience the high energy of our local college students at Florida Gulf Coast University and Florida Southwestern State College. They always add so much to our area!

Speaking of FGCU, this year they will be celebrating their 20 years!! Unbelievable – RIGHT?? I am sure there will be many opportunities to interact with campus activities as they celebrate this milestone. For our part, we are reminiscing with the three ‘founding’ coaches of the university’s celebrated athletic department, those of women’s basketball, men’s baseball and women’s softball. We will also give you an insight into the new athletic facilities opening up this month.

Our cover story this month relives some of the incredible history of Estero with an unprecedented interview with Nola Boomer and a peak inside her beautiful home along the Estero River.

We have also reached out to the Rotary Club of Estero for an update on the many ways they do good in the world, both locally and internationally. Rotarians are making a tremendous difference in and around our SW Florida communities.

I know many, many people who have traveling to Australia on their ‘bucket lists’!!! Many more will probably ad it to theirs after enjoying our travel feature to ‘down under.’

This month’s dining feature introduces you to Coconut Point’s newest addition, Divieto Ristorante, a casual dining experience that offers the quality and service of fine dining in a relaxed environment with an international touch & delicious Italian cuisine. The most amazing fettucine Alfredo imaginable!! Mangia Bene!

And don’t forget to seek out this month’s Village Connection to learn more about the significant accomplishments of our Village of Estero. The Village staff is looking forward to your feedback.

And what would Estero Life Magazine be without our Best Bets, Village Life photos, Happenings and Scene on Site pages?

As we welcome Lennar Homes into our family of advertising partners, please remember to support all of our partners for making it possible for you to receive Estero Life each month.

Till we meet again…remember, Life is GOOD!
