Tucked away in a plaza near the corner of McGregor Boulevard and Cypress Lake Drive in Fort Myers is a cozy yet contemporary restaurant that deserves attention.
Blanc has resided in this locale for nine years, but Jamie and Natalie Stalowski, originally from Pittsburgh, took over ownership in October 2023. The restaurateur duo also own Bonita Springs breakfast spot Poached, right next door to their other restaurant, La Fontanella. The pair recently opened a second location of La Fontanella in Fort Myers.
Stepping into the small, modern space at Blanc is like taking a breath of fresh air. The atmosphere is cool and clean, with gleaming white tiled walls, mirrors and greenery. The artistic accents on the bar and hostess stand beautifully complement the minimalist decor.
Inspired by flavors gathered around the globe, the menu at Blanc draws on French and Asian cuisines, as well as more traditional American dishes. Meat selections include beef, chicken and lamb, along with fresh seafood, vegetables and side dishes, such as Fried Red Beets and Spinach and Roasted Tomato Risotto.
Starters, such as Sushi Grade Ahi Tuna Sliders and Escargot in a Crock, illustrate the variety of global fare, while certain entrees represent the more classic American selections, like the Filet Mignon au Poivre in a brandy peppercorn demi-glace, and Grouper Tropical, featuring sauteed red grouper with pineapple salsa.
Much of the food at Blanc is expertly cooked on their robata grill, which is a traditional Japanese charcoal grill known for imparting a distinct smoky flavor to the foods cooked on it, creating a rich and aromatic experience.
The general manager of Blanc, Eva, is continually impressed by the food at her restaurant. Eva immigrated to the United States from Bulgaria, with some time spent in Virginia before relocating to Southwest Florida, where the sunshine and palm trees beckoned. She has worked in a variety of restaurants and is proud of the global fusion of flavors that are found in her kitchen.
“Our cuisine is inspired by the world traveler,” she said. When pressed for her favorite dish on the carefully curated menu, Eva gives thoughtful consideration: “I am a big fan of seafood in general, but I also love our lamb.”
Blanc is open from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and closed on Sundays and Mondays. Three-Course Thursdays is a generous weekly special which offers three selections from three different courses for $55. Wine and beer from around the world complement the dishes on the menu.
Stop in at Blanc for a cozy seat among friends. Stay for the impeccable cuisine that will send you around the world in two hours, no passport required.
