The Mental Fitness Movement Begins at Grounding Spot

Grounding Spot offers red light therapy
There is a movement taking place right here in Estero. Grounding Spot Mental Fitness Club in Coconut Point is redefining the concept of wellness with a bold idea — mental fitness deserves the same attention as physical fitness.
Just as people go to the gym to strengthen their bodies, Grounding Spot is a place where individuals can strengthen their minds, reduce stress and “get grounded.”
In a society that constantly requires more productivity and more digital connectivity, many people are searching for a healthy way to disconnect from the demands and reconnect with themselves. At Grounding Spot, that self-connection is not just encouraged — it’s the goal.
The result is a first-of-its-kind experience: a mental fitness club designed to help people unwind, recharge and, ultimately, thrive.
The visionary behind Grounding Spot is founder Frances Borshell, a wellness advocate who spent years studying the intersection of mindfulness, health and personal development. She is trained in transcendental meditation, gratitude, art, yoga, sound and present mind awareness techniques, studying with Eckhart Tolle and learning from some of the most renowned teachers in the mental wellness space.
Her goal was simple yet ambitious — make mental wellness as accessible as going to the gym.
“Grounding Spot exists on the simple but powerful belief that the most important love story you’ll ever live is the one with yourself,” said Borshell. “When you strengthen your mental fitness, you shift from fear to freedom, from doubt to trust, from self-criticism to self-love. And when that shift happens, it doesn’t just change your life — it radiates outward, touching everyone around you.”
She envisioned a space where people could actively train their minds, build resilience and reconnect with a deeper sense of well-being. The idea became reality in May 2024 when Grounding Spot opened its flagship location at Coconut Point, transforming a former yoga studio into a comprehensive mental wellness destination.
Borshell was enduring challenges in her personal life, along with a physical injury, during the creation of Grounding Spot. It was her belief in what she was creating that steadied her course.
“The most amazing thing to me is I was like, ‘OK, I get to practice what we preach, what we teach,’ and that is no resistance, just acceptance,” said Borshell.
“While I was going through one of the toughest times emotionally of my life, I was putting together a healing center, which for me was my own healing process.”
A Holistic Approach to Wellness
The environment within Grounding Spot is serene. Soft lighting, tranquil design and welcoming spaces encourage visitors to slow down and step away from the outside world. But Grounding Spot is far more than a quiet place to meditate. It’s a full-scale wellness ecosystem designed to support the mind, body and longevity.
The lobby of Grounding Spot offers superfoods designed to nourish both body and mind with nutrient-dense, grab-and-go options that support overall wellness.
There are several individual rooms for the many classes offered weekly, as well as a dedicated cold plunge room and space for the numerous health treatments.
At its core, Grounding Spot operates on the belief that mental health is deeply connected to physical and emotional well-being, and it integrates multiple disciplines under one roof.
Members and guests can explore a wide range of services and experiences, including guided meditation and mindfulness sessions, yoga and Pilates classes, mental fitness coaching, IV vitamin therapy, cold plunge therapy, and hyperbaric oxygen treatments.
Together, these offerings aim to help visitors reduce stress, boost resilience and cultivate greater mental clarity.
The philosophy is preventative as much as it is restorative. Grounding Spot encourages people to proactively train their minds and maintain balance before stress becomes overwhelming.
While Borshell provides the visionary direction, much of the operational excellence behind Grounding Spot is driven by Alli Wilhelm, the organization’s chief operations officer and Borshell’s sister. Together, the two women have spent years dedicated to wellness and creating a space that welcomes one and all, regardless of age and demographic.
Wilhelm plays a pivotal role in shaping the guest experience — from the seamless flow of classes and services to the welcoming atmosphere that defines the space. Her leadership philosophy centers on building systems that support both staff and members, ensuring that the environment remains calm, organized and aligned with the center’s mission.
She describes Grounding Spot as more than a workplace — it’s an extension of her personal journey toward balance and self-awareness.
“Grounding Spot is an integration of mine and Frances’ experiences,” said Wilhelm.
Her work focuses on creating structure that allows visitors to slow down and reconnect. By designing thoughtful systems and experiences, Wilhelm helps transform the club into what many members describe as a sanctuary — a place where people can pause, reset and rediscover a sense of calm.
Wellness on Wheels
Grounding Spot’s commitment to accessibility recently expanded beyond the walls of the Estero studio with the launch of a unique new concept — a mobile wellness bus.
Dubbed the “Food Truck for the Soul,” the custom-converted 27-foot vehicle brings meditation, relaxation and wellness therapies directly to the community.
Inside the bus are seven private meditation pods, each equipped with comfortable seating, adjustable lighting and noise-canceling headphones. Guests can choose from guided meditations, binaural sound experiences, or silent reflection sessions designed to restore focus and calm — often in as little as 15 minutes.
The mobile unit also offers services such as IV vitamin therapy and other rejuvenating treatments aimed at boosting energy, hydration and overall wellness.
The idea behind the bus is to bring wellness to people who might not otherwise seek it out.
“We’re bringing meditation and rejuvenating therapies directly to the community,” Borshell explained when launching the initiative. The bus can travel to workplaces, hospitals, schools, festivals and special events, offering a convenient way for people to pause and recharge during busy days.
In corporate settings, the wellness bus is already being used as a tool to combat burnout and support employee well-being. In just a few hours, it can provide guided meditation sessions to dozens of participants — an appealing option for companies seeking innovative wellness programs. Many local businesses and organizations have already taken advantage of these unique and beneficial services.
“There’s data to support the need,” said Wilhelm. “It’s in the interest of employers to have this for their employees. The investment is worth it — they end up having a larger return.”
A Community-centered Mission
Beyond its therapies and technologies, what truly defines Grounding Spot is its sense of community.
Members often describe the space as a gathering place where people share experiences, personal growth and mutual support. Classes and workshops encourage connection, reminding participants that mental wellness is not something achieved alone.
That sense of belonging was intentionally built into the concept from the beginning.
Borshell believes that while traditional therapy and medication play vital roles for many people, there is also tremendous value in everyday practices like meditation, movement and mindfulness, which strengthen resilience over time.
“The happiest people, the most fulfilled people we know, are not because their circumstances are great; it’s because they are mentally fit, their mindset is where it’s at,” said Borshell.
Grounding Spot’s programs are designed for people at all stages of their wellness journey, from beginners exploring meditation for the first time to seasoned practitioners looking to deepen their practice.
Membership options make the experience accessible to a wide range of participants, offering everything from entry-level packages to comprehensive programs which include coaching, therapies and classes.
The Future of Mental Fitness
As conversations around mental health continue to evolve, Grounding Spot represents a growing shift in how communities approach well-being.
According to Borshell, out of the roughly 10,000 thoughts we have a day, research shows that 80% of those thoughts are negative, and 85% are repetitive. Imagine how people could thrive if those numbers were drastically reduced.
Rather than treating mental health solely as a response to crisis, the mental fitness concept encourages ongoing care — training the mind through consistent habits and mindful practices.
For Borshell and Wilhelm, that vision is just getting started.
“We’re number one for growth for the month of December and number three for the quarter for all of the stores in Coconut Point,” Borshell said. “But it would not be what it is if it hadn’t been for Alli coming, period.”
With the success of the Estero location and the launch of the mobile wellness bus, the Grounding Spot team hopes to expand their reach, bringing mental fitness to workplaces, schools and communities throughout Southwest Florida.
“We are seeing a ton of people in their 20s,” said Wilhelm. “It’s amazing to see the younger generation already hip to wellness and their commitment to it.”
For those who walk through the doors at Coconut Point or step onto the wellness bus, Grounding Spot offers something increasingly rare in modern life — a moment to breathe, space to reset, and a place to remember that wellness begins within.
