Ever thought of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro? Neither had Estero resident Megan Garcia, laser technician at The Laser Lounge Spa in Estero, until she connected with Haven of Hope founder and President Alice Sweet and offered to help with a fundraiser benefitting orphans around the world. Before she knew it, she was preparing to climb as her company fully supported her efforts.

In this month’s cover story, we share the purpose behind such an adventurous commitment. And if you have such a sense of adventure, there is another “Klimbing for Kids” excursion planned for September 16-29, 2023. For those somewhat less adventurous, there are numerous other ways to support Haven of Hope’s mission!

In this month’s issue, we honor those who go above and beyond to serve humanity and to better their communities—both globally and right here in the Village of Estero.

Our Village Connection is expanded this month to heartily honor and thank our three outgoing Village Council members, Mayor Katy Errington and Councilmembers Jim Wilson and Jim Boesch, and to congratulate re-elected Councilmember Jon McLain and welcome our three newly elected representatives, Lori Fayhee, George Zalucki and Rafael Lopez. Estero Life Magazine offers our congratulations to all!

Our feature on “The Evolution of Engage Estero” shares the history and relevance of the former Estero Council of Community Leaders (ECCL) as the organization “refreshes” its name to better reflect its continued mission of engaging Estero citizens on the issues that affect our quality of life. Please note, as you read about this transition, that there are many opportunities to add your time, talent and experience to this valuable organization in our community.

Honoring a different cultural history, this month’s dining feature dives deep into cuisines of the central and southern parts of Mexico to offer unique flavors seldom thought of when headed out for the typical Mexican meal. At Malinche Mexican Cuisine in Bonita Springs, brothers Jorge and Antonio Lopez invite you to learn the history of their hometown, Tlaxcala, honoring the Aztec and Mayan roots of their culture. We are sure you will enjoy seeing our favorites as you explore the many tastes and textures of these dishes made from fresh, authentic and imported ingredients.

On behalf of all of us at Estero Life Magazine, we wish everyone a most holy Passover and Easter and God’s blessings to you all in your spiritual growth and humanitarian pursuits.

Until next month, remember to…

Enjoy the Good Life: Estero Life!!

Gary
