May can be one of the best months of the year in paradise – not too hot, not too chilly and, if lucky, enough rain to keep things green and shiny. Plus, low humidity and less traffic on the area’s roadways make it pleasant to get out and enjoy Southwest Florida!
Many of us choose to keep busy with golf, tennis (and now pickle ball) or boating, while others prefer to relax at the beach or poolside, perhaps with a cool drink and a good book (or the latest issue of Estero Life Magazine).
One of the most endearing holidays in the month of May is that of Mother’s Day. This is a very personal day and probably means something slightly different to each of us. Whether we are reflecting back on a mother’s life well lived or being grateful for how our mothers continue to have an impact on our lives, it is certainly full of emotion and causes most of us to look deeply into our hearts to express our love and cherished memories.
To this end, our cover story this month asks area residents to share with our readers the “best advice” they have received from their moms. Many of us will recall similar lessons given by our own mothers.
Additionally, there’s a new TV show in town airing on Fox-4 on Sundays, “Great Neighborhood Cooks,” produced by Rob Kircher. Some of the chefs are coming from the Estero area, including Juan Carlos and Jamie Homez of Bella Terra. Enjoy a family recipe handed down from Juan’s grandmother in Venezuela.
Also this month, we introduce Brandon Kaiser, a gifted Political Science major at FGCU who in an ongoing contributor to The Progress, a local publication in West Caldwell, New Jersey. Estero Life asked him to share his perspective on student volunteers and their impact on the Estero area. You may be surprised at the contributions these young adults are making.
As we approach a new hurricane season (beginning June 1), this month’s Village Connection offers details about the forthcoming Stormwater Master Plan. After Irma, water is something that every resident is certainly mindful of, realizing the importance of a proper drainage system. It’s comforting to know the Village is taking such matters seriously.
Our dining feature takes you on a whirlwind culinary tour through Tuscany at BRIO Tuscan Grille at the Waterside Shops in Naples. Steaks, chops, seafood and Pasta – delicioso!
March and April were once again so full of local philanthropy and activity that we have an abundance of Scene on Site pages celebrating many accomplishments. And, of course, we include our Best Bets events listing and a Village Life feature for you to enjoy!
To all of the mothers, near and far, we wish you a very happy Mother’s Day. May you receive all of the love, attention, respect and appreciation you so richly deserve. And for those of us whose mothers are no longer with us, may they remain golden memories in our hearts.
And finally, as we reflect on the costs of freedom this Memorial Day, we salute not only the service men and women in uniform and our treasured veterans of all wars and conflicts, but especially those fallen heroes. Your valor and dedication keeps us safe and free. You are in our hearts, minds and prayers this Memorial Day (and always). God Bless America!
As always, remember to “Enjoy the GOOD Life: Estero Life!”
