LIGHT UP ESTERO
Estero Community Park, 9200 Corkscrew Palms Blvd.
Saturday, Dec. 2
The 4th annual Light Up Estero holiday event moves to Estero Community Park this year and has been expanded to include music, barbecue and family activities.
“We want it to be fun, and we want a bunch of families to come with their kids, eat barbecue, listen to music and play games,” says Rotary Club of Estero event co-chair Peg Phillips.
In keeping with tradition, the first 250 families to arrive will receive a 4th Annual Light Up Estero commemorative ornament, compliments of Pavich Family of Realtors. Starting at 4 p.m., live music will be provided by community groups including the Riverside Church Youth Band. Food will be available for purchase from Naples Smoked BBQ. While the kids play in the bounce house, adults may visit with representatives from Rotary-supported nonprofits. The large, grassy area at the center of the park will provide ample space for families to spread out a blanket and enjoy the festivities.
The official program is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. and will include greetings by local dignitaries and the adorable New Horizons of Southwest Florida Children’s Choir. This year’s Christmas tree, donated by FineMark Bank, will be a sizable artificial tree which will be moved to the Village of Estero Council Chambers after the event, Phillips said
As always, the evening will end with a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, who will arrive not by sleigh but by firetruck, which has become an Estero tradition. Estero’s Santa, Dave Ott, was one of the district’s original firefighters. He grows a real beard for his leading role as St. Nick each year and often enlists one of his grandkids as an elf. Families are welcome to visit and take photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus
New this year, Estero Rotary will be using net proceeds from Light Up Estero to initiate a scholarship fund to benefit Estero High School graduates who are pursuing further education at college or vocational school. For sponsorship information, contact Phillips at (239)220-8694 or event co-chair Tom Patricca at (518)281-1071.
“This is the new and improved Light Up Estero!” says Phillips.
