Lamb of God Church buys, cooks and delivers meals to 1000’s of families in need on Thanksgiving morning. This year we will feed 5000 people in Lee and Collier County. Our initiative has continued to grow and expand over the past 12 years. Basic information regarding this community outreach is below.

Feeding the 5000: Thanksgiving Outreach is a local community of volunteers and business partners coming together in the battle against hunger in Southwest Florida. Since our mission began, we have prepared and delivered over 60,000 meals.
Hundreds of community volunteers join together during the week of Thanksgiving to prepare and package complete Thanksgiving meals, complete with fixings. On Thanksgiving morning, volunteer drivers deliver those meals to families and ensure that everyone has plenty to be thankful for.Feeding the 5000 provides our best opportunity to fight against hunger, to support our community, and to help needy families during the holiday season.

On Sunday we begin the challenge of cooking several hundred turkeys. We typically cook through Tuesday. All of the turkeys will be cooked in the kitchens at Lamb of God Church.

Beginning Monday afternoon, volunteers come to pull the meat off the turkeys and package them in individual- and family-size portions. This is one of the most popular volunteer opportunities for families and groups.

On Wednesday, we start cooking the rest of the fixings that make Thanksgiving Dinner so delicious. Then, Wednesday afternoon, we package the meals and put them in the refrigerator truck for the drivers on Thursday morning.

Bright and early on Thursday morning, hundreds of volunteers join together to package meals and deliver them to thousands of families across 5 counties in Southwest Florida.
