Walk for Water

April 7, 2018 @ 8:30 am - 5:00 pm

Cost: $10 per person donation (kids under 13 are free)
Info: Sally Smith, or (239)206-7083

The Rotary Clubs of Estero and Bonita Springs invite the community to “Walk for Water” and help make a difference in the lives of people around the world who walk miles for clean water each day.

During the event, Southwest Florida families can experience the typical distance that families in Guatemala must “walk for water.” Upon arrival, each participant is given an empty bucket and sent on a route from the YMCA, down Kent Road and the Nature Walk to the Imperial River kayak landing. There, they must fill up their buckets and walk back to the YMCA.

Donations will be used for Rotary’s Clean Water and Sanitation project in Santa Eulalia, Guatemala, a rural

mountainous region of the indigenous Mayan Indian people. The project is providing clean, filtered water to a hospital, common areas and homes in the village.

An estimated 2,000 children under the age of five die in the world every day from waterborne diseases. It costs less than $200 to provide a family in a third world country with sustainable, clean drinking water. Walk for Water is a joint effort of the Rotary Clubs of Estero, Bonita Springs AM, Bonita Springs Noon and Bonita Springs Sunset, in conjunction with Water Mission.
