WALK FOR WATER
March 23, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am
$15
THE EVENT
The Rotary Club of Estero invites the community to gather at Koreshan State Park to participate in the 5th Annual Walk for Water. This fun, family event brings awareness to the struggles people living in underdeveloped countries go through to obtain their daily supply of water.
Participants will pick up empty buckets at the Koreshan pavilion, walk half-a-mile along the Estero River to the dock in front of the historic buildings, and fill their buckets. Then, they will carry their full buckets back to the pavilion and return the water to the river. This activity is designed to give participants a deeper appreciation for the clean, easily accessible water in our community by simulating the difficulties of getting water in other countries.
During the event, a Guatemalan native will be streaming Marimba music. Everyone is encouraged to listen to the unique beats, partake in complimentary coffee and donuts, and enjoy the day at Koreshan State Park.
The cost for the event is $15 per bucket; however, children ages 13 and under may participate for free. All funds raised at Walk for Water will go toward the installation of a safe water system in a remote Mayan village in Santa Eulalia, Guatemala. People living in this area often consume water that is not potable, so the death rate from water borne diseases is very high.
