SECRET GARDEN GALA
March 6 @ 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm$500
The Third Annual Secret Garden Gala promises to be an enchanting evening, but the focus of this gala is no longer a secret. Scott Spiezle and Susan Goldy, founders of the Kids’ Minds Matter initiative, have brought the too-often hidden issue of pediatric mental illness to light.
Their crusade for better mental healthcare for children in Lee County has gained traction quickly. The Lee Health Foundation recently announced a $10 million campaign to support Kids’ Minds Matter, declaring it the region’s strategic solution for improved access to care. This four-tiered model of care promises to change the landscape of pediatric mental illness in Southwest Florida, providing a synergistic framework to connect community partners.
The passion, and commitment to fundraising, brought by Spiezle and Goldy is paying off. Kids’ Minds Matter has raised $3 million since its founding in 2016, including $800,000 at last year’s sold-out Secret Garden Gala. The fundraising goal for this year’s event is $1 million.
The evening will begin with a cocktail party under the giant Mysore Fig tree in the newly renovated outdoor space of Shangri-La Springs. Guests will be invited to walk over a footbridge, through the beautiful, organic gardens to an illumined tent. This garden setting will be the venue for an uplifting evening. The keynote speaker will be Richard Keelan, a child advocate certified in Mental Health First Aid. He will offer tips on recognizing mental illness and what to do when you see it.
The gala program will open with a powerful rendition of “Bring Him Home” from Les Miserables, performed by Douglas Renfroe, an acclaimed bass baritone and director of Voices of Naples, accompanied on piano by Goldy. The evening also will include an elegant dinner catered by Crave Culinaire and a fabulous live auction. Registration: LeeHealthFoundation.org/SecretGarden
