Light Up Estero
December 1, 2018 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pmFree
Ho! Ho! Ho! Christmas is coming! And with it, the 5th annual Light Up Estero. On the first day of December, join your friends and neighbors at Estero Community Park for food, fun and holiday festivities. It all begins at 4 p.m. with games for kids, a food truck and a raffle of 10 nicely decorated, donated wreaths. Not only could you take home a nice holiday decoration, but you’ll also be supporting scholarships for students at Estero High School with your raffle ticket.
The program officially kicks off at 5:30 p.m. Musical performances will include the always-adorable New Horizons Children’s Choir and holiday jazz selections by local school bands. Lighting of the tree happens around 6:30 p.m., followed by the arrival of Old St. Nick, sitting atop an Estero fire truck. Santa will stay on the stage for children to sit on his lap, get a picture, and of course, request what they’d like for Christmas.
“Personally, I look at it as the start to the holiday season with the added benefit of helping Estero High students through scholarships,” says Co-Chair Tom Patricca. “It’s the gift that keeps on giving.”
Rotary Club of Estero is organizing the event for the third straight year. Last year, about 200 people attended Light Up Estero, and the hope is that even more will show up this time around. After all, it is a community event designed to bring people together. Attendees may want to bring blankets or lawn chairs to relax and enjoy the evening.
Although the event is free, a donation of nonperishable food or canned goods is requested as “admission.” Cash donations are also welcomed, with all proceeds going toward scholarships. Last year, the event provided enough funds to award three scholarships to deserving Estero High students.
“Light Up Estero is a community event that will get everyone into the Christmas spirit,” says Co-Chair Laura Ackerman. “It’s nice to support the Estero community and be together as an Estero family.”

Let the holiday season begin!
