FreeBonita Springs Concert Band is back! Grab your lawn chairs and meet your friends at Riverside Park on Sunday, November 6th, at 2 p.m. in downtown Bonita Springs for an captivating afternoon of commemorative music.
The first concert of the season will feature musical highlights honoring our Veterans and Military personnel. Patriotic songs include John Philip Sousa’s “U.S. Field Artillery March,” “Stars and Stripes Forever,”“Star Spangled Salute” and “America the Beautiful.”
Guest soloist CJ Greer will sing “Armed Forces Salute” as well as “Freedom’s Call,” Irving Berlin’s “Songs of America,” and “Don’t Rain on my Parade.” Greer is a Music and Music Theater faculty member at the University Nevada-Reno campus. She has performed around the world from theme parks to Broadway to Carnegie Hall. Her singing has been described as “warm, lovely, powerful, and emotional.” Greer has received multiple Helen Hayes Award nominations for her performances. Broadway/National Tour credits include Sister Act, Les Misérables, The Producers, Ragtime, I Love A Piano, and The Buddy Holly Story.
The Bonita Springs Concert Band continues under the direction of Gary Smith, who retired after 24 years as conductor of the University of Illinois Marching Illini Band. This is the 9th season that Smith has led the band. “The talent of these musicians is tremendous, ranging in age from 15 to 90,” commends Smith.
