The Village of Estero is enjoying significant progress on the dreams and hopes of its residents and leaders in pursuing their goals of creating a “village center” (a mixed-use development which blends residential, commercial and cultural aspects into an integrated, pedestrian-friendly community). Our Village Council, Village Manager and staff have worked efficiently and methodically to lead us in the pursuit of these goals and expectations which are coming to fruition.
On the south end, we all have been watching as the futuristic Lee Health-Coconut Point rises from its foundation in anticipation of the early December opening. Our cover story this month offers an exclusive introduction of Alex Greenwood, Vice President, and his talented leadership team. Estero’s new health and wellness village will be no ordinary medical facility, so it will take extraordinary leaders to run it. You will enjoy learning about the backgrounds and experiences of these individuals who are already engaged in the hiring of myriad doctors, nurses, technicians and others who will bring the facility to life in serving our community.
On the north end, at the corner of Corkscrew Rd and Via Coconut Point, we find the beautiful Genova condo community. Its first owners are beginning to settle into their luxury, Italian Riviera-inspired condos, becoming the first residents of Estero’s designated Village Center.
October brings not only cooler weather, but the start of the Florida Everblades’ ECHL hockey season. After coming so close to the Kelly Cup victory last season, the Blades have regrouped behind the leadership of last year’s star player, John McCarron. His 29 goals and career-best 63 points will be the face, heart and soul of the 2018-19 Everblades team. We wish President Craig Brush, Coaches Brad Ralph and Tad O’Had, and the entire Everblades organization a successful season!
Adding to the excitement of the autumn season, our quarterly fashion piece features the newest fall styles from Altar’d State at Coconut Point, modeled by FGCU graduate and Estero young professional Samantha Simcox.
Our dining feature explores Barbatella, the third of the concepts from Chef Fabrizio Aielli, located on Third Avenue South in Naples. The atmosphere is unique, the food is delicious, and the staff gives attention to every detail. We invite you to share our dining experience at this friendly, upscale eatery.
This month’s Village Connection gives insight into the recently approved budget for 2018-2019. You will take great satisfaction in knowing that your Village government is in such terrific financial shape and that Estero now boasts the lowest tax rate in Southwest Florida! Read more about the accomplishments we can look forward to achieving in 2019.
And of course you will find our regular reader favorites such as Best Bets for fall fun and Happenings in and around Estero. As many celebrate Halloween at the end of the month, let’s do so safely! Remember, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Please keep those suffering and/or affected in your thoughts and prayers as we continue to search for better treatments and potential cures.
As always, remember to… Enjoy the Good Life: Estero Life!
