Estero… A Community of Giving

As we begin to look toward the end of the year, we are blessed with the month of November which reminds us all to be conscious of how much we have to be thankful for. Hopefully, it is more lasting than just one holiday that is set aside for such introspection. This season provides ample opportunity to truly focus on family, friends and giving back. Many are in need of food, clothing, emotional support, a kind word or a hug of comfort.

David Hoffman, Craig Brush and Gary IsraelHaving lived in Estero for nearly 15 years, I am always very proud of how our residents, year after year, step up and support the efforts of so many individuals in their times of need. They generously contribute both time and treasure to local organizations who are making a genuine difference in the lives of so many.

If you are like-minded in your desire to give to others, please take time to carefully read “Look for the Helpers” to discover a few of the unique ways to become a “helper”! It will inspire you and your family to truly become involved in bringing comfort and happiness to others. And, at the end, there is an invitation for you to share how your family or organization gives back during the holiday season. We look forward to hearing from many of you!

If you are an ice hockey aficionado, you will be excited to learn how the Florida Everblades organization is “giving back” to fans! Our cover story this month introduces you to the “new” Florida Everblades and their newly remodeled facility, Hertz Arena. Although some of the planned improvements are still ongoing, there has been plenty already done to improve the fan/audience experience in and around the arena…down to the exterior landscaping and parking lots! From top to bottom, from the new Category 5 hurricane-strength roof down to new floors everywhere, and everything in between, major improvements are being made.

As far as the Everblades are concerned, the major changes relate to a new NHL affiliation with the Nashville Predators. This should create a win-win situation for both teams. Overall, great excitement abounds this season for hockey, as well as concertgoers of all ages. You’re sure to find an upcoming event at Hertz Arena to enjoy with your family or friends

Speaking of enjoying family time, have you met the Marsalas? Nothing says “family” quite like a local, family restaurant. One fine example in Estero is Marsala Italian Ristorante & Pizzeria, our dining feature this month. The Marsala family is always ready to welcome everyone into their family, even if for just a delicious meal! Mangia Bene!

As you plan to celebrate Thanksgiving with your family and friends, check out the cooking tips and a recipe from Chef Daryll Hersche. If you have friends who are “like family” (and some who aren’t), you’ll enjoy LJ’s Corner this month as the columnist ponders all that goes into the many facets of friendship. As we age, our relationships go through changes. Are you keeping pace?

And, of course, no issue of Estero Life is complete without our Best Bets, Happenings and our readers’ favorite, the Scene on Site galleries!

As always, remember to…

Enjoy the Good Life: Estero Life!!!
