This month marks the third anniversary for DeRomo’s Gourmet Market and Restaurant, and that’s reason to celebrate, Italian style. Owner Francis Cuomo is inviting the community to an abundant Italian Fest in the DeRomo’s parking lot Oct. 15 at the Promenade at Bonita Bay.

Before DeRomo’s opened its 18,000-square-foot market, restaurant and gift shop in October 2014, the shopping center was a ghost town. DeRomo’s has infused life into The Promenade, with many retailers following to revitalize this charming plaza which features European architecture and cascading streams of water.

DeRomo’s features a meat and seafood counter, a sandwich shop, a coffee bar and pastry shop within the market, which also offers an array of cheeses, wines and other imported goods. DeRomo’s also makes its own pasta and fresh mozzarella in house. The restaurant side of the operation features old family recipes, handed down for generations, touts Cuomo, who has a culinary degree in addition to his informal training growing up in a large Italian family near New York City’s Little Italy.

Italian Fest brings an opportunity for the Southwest Florida community to experience Italian culture and cuisine. For $25 ($10 for children 10 and under), guests will be able to sample as much food as they wish throughout the six-hour event. There will be a cash bar for Italian beers, wines and other refreshments.

Enchanted Ballroom will offer dance demonstrations, and other Promenade shops and boutiques will be open from noon to 5 p.m. A car show will run throughout the event from 1-6 p.m., and WINK-FM will be broadcasting live from Italian Fest. Additionally, children will enjoy a special amusement area.

Live entertainment will happen on the main stage starting at 12:30 p.m. with Joey Fiato, a favorite Southwest Florida performer who sings everything from Sinatra to Motown to Springsteen. At 2:30 p.m. there will be a fashion show with many Promenade shops showcasing styles for fall. Next in the entertainment lineup will be Carlo De Antonis, an Argentine opera singer from Season 12 of “America’s Got Talent.”

Uptown Express will close out the event, performing from 3:30-6:30 p.m. with its tribute to the golden era of rock ’n’ roll. One of Southwest Florida’s most popular bands, Uptown Express has been continuously performing since 1984 with its show featuring favorites from the 1950s. Over the years, the band has added a sprinkle of Motown and a dash of Rhythm ’n’ Blues to the mix of classic oldies rock.

Festival foods will include plenty of Old World Italian favorites including hearty pasta dishes, seafood, fine cheeses and meats, and handmade pastries. DeRomo’s invites the community to eat, drink, dance and enjoy the festive offerings of Italian Fest!
