“Curveballs” Documentary Wins First Place at Fort Myers Film Festival

In an exciting turn of events, the “Curveballs” documentary featured in Estero Life Magazine’s May cover story  (https://esterolifemagazine.com/curveballs-film-highlights-heart-of-esteros-national-amputee-baseball-team/ ) was awarded First Place Trophy Award for Best Feature Film at the Fort Myers Film festival this month.  

Estero resident David Van Sleet, general manager of the Louisville Slugger Warriors National Amputee Baseball Team, put Estero on the map with the premier showing of  “Curveballs … secrets to the game of life,”  May 14 and May 17 at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center during the 2025 Fort Myers Film Festival.

This inspiring documentary tells the story of the world’s first competitive baseball team made up of amputees – the Louisville Slugger Warriors.
