20 years maybe doesn’t sound like very long to some people, however, the modern day ‘Estero’ just began to develop in the last 20 years! 20 years ago there was no I-75 interchange and all of the development was along US 41 near ‘old Estero’ (Broadway and a short ways south). Can you imagine nothing on Corkscrew Rd???
The opening of Florida Gulf Coast University and the excitement of a new ‘Teco’ Arena were just the beginning.
First of all, we congratulate Florida Gulf Coast University which is holding a variety of unique celebrations throughout the campus and the varied departments. With this is mind we want to introduce you to Dr. Martin, FGCU’s new president. We thought you would like to understand his thinking as he begins to lead this amazing institution of higher learning.
Along with the opening of a brand new arena in the area also came The Florida Everblades of the ECHL. Continuing their amazing success in Estero, President Craig Brush, Coaches Brad Ralph and Tad O’Had and company take to the ice on October 13th & 14th to open their 20th season in a quest to win the Kelly Cup. Go Blades!!!
And, 20 years ago the Estero Fire was in turmoil with political corruption when Estero resident, Dick Schweers, was appointed by Governor Chiles to help straighten out the mess. Things have sure improved since then. We congratulate the Estero Fire Rescue on Dick’s 20 years of service!!

Speaking of enjoyment, for those wine enthusiasts in our area, get ready for the 2nd annual DeRomo’s Wine Fest at the Promenade in Bonita Springs on October 13, 2017. (we suggest that you arrive early??).
Our quarterly fashion piece features the newest ladies fashion and accessories location at Coconut Point, Soft Surroundings. Our beautiful model is Brandy Minchew, board member of the Estero Chamber of Commerce and member of the Chamber’s Young Professional Network!!
Our dining feature was another amazing experience. We would like to introduce you to Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant in North Naples. Wine! Wine! Wine!!! (And the food is terrific, too!!)

Finally, on a more serious note, everyone single person in Southwest Florida has been affected by Hurricane Irma these past several weeks. We hope and pray that everyone by now is safe, going through the recovery and moving forward into healing and that we all gained an appreciation for the many blessings God has bestowed upon us here in our altered paradise.
