A Time for Giving Thanks…

As residents of the Village of Estero, we all have a great deal for which to be thankful. So right off, let me encourage everyone to exercise your right to VOTE on November 6 to preserve what we value. On behalf of Estero Life Magazine and our entire staff, we are very thankful for celebrating our 2nd anniversary since becoming Estero LIFE. We are also excited to announce that for the second year in a row, we have been named as an Award-Winning publication for our production partners, Presstige Printing.

As we celebrate Veteran’s Day this year, we invite everyone to participate in two special events to honor those men and women who have worn the uniforms of our armed forces. The first event will be held on Sunday, Nov. 11, at the Elk’s Lodge on Coconut Road from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be presentations from the Village of Estero, City of Bonita Springs and Lee County Sheriff’s Department. Brunch is served at 12:30 p.m. for just $10.

The 2nd Annual Village of Estero Veteran’s Day Celebration will be held on Saturday, Nov.17, at Estero Community Park from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will include a FREE lunch, concert and kids activities. Bring a chair and a friend, and come out to join your community in our “Salute to Veterans”!

Another patriotic activity is occurring not only at Three Oaks Elementary School, but throughout the state of Florida. We are proudly acknowledging the efforts of Army Veteran Joseph Cofield as he works to deliver a U.S. Constitution booklet to every fifth grader in the state. You will enjoy his story of perseverance and dedication to the ideals that everyone should know the importance of our most cherished national document.

Our cover story this month introduces our readers to Michael Fly, the new men’s basketball head coach at FGCU. Having been a long-time assistant coach for the Eagles, he is ready to take the helm and lead the team to new heights. You will enjoy our insights as Coach Fly shares his vision for this year’s talented team.

And our November dining feature showcases the popular bastion of prime rib and salad bars, the Pewter Mug North. So what can you expect from this newer, more spacious and modern favorite? We promise you won’t go away hungry!

For Thanksgiving, we have included a holiday recipe from “Great Neighborhood Cooks” and a culinary tip from Daryll Hersche, chef/owner of Your Epicurean Affair. Plus, our quarterly wine feature by Dinah Leach, sommelier at Angelina’s Restaurant.

All of this along with your favorites such as area Happenings, Best Bets, the Village Connection, our Village Life photo spread and Scene on Site events.

As always, remember to… Enjoy the Good Life: Estero Life!
