With this September 2020 issue, we are celebrating our 10th anniversary!!

In September 2010, at the bottom of an economic recession, Lifestyle Media Group launched Estero Lifestyle Magazine and gave me the opportunity to serve as publisher and director of sales/marketing. Although the business community was hesitant at first, the overwhelming, positive response from Estero residents was the impetus needed to encourage the success of the first and only “lifestyle” publication for the area. I still can hardly believe it has been ten years!

Gary IsraelA major reason for our success has been the ongoing support of our advertising partners. Businesses such as Lee Health, the Florida Everblades, FGCU Athletics, Shikany’s Bonita Springs Funeral Home, Dr. Aaron A. Leishman Dental, The Pewter Mug, Life Care Center of Estero, Ristorante Farfalla, Pavich Realty and Miromar Outlets have provided support from almost the very beginning. More recent additions such as My Shower Door, Jack Mancini/Keller Williams Realty, Bonita Boarding Kennel and Good Deals Appliances have added to our success. Finally, we welcome our newest partners: Zino Ristorante, Club Pilates Estero, The Colonnades of Estero and Ray The Mover/North American Van Lines.

The second part of this “double” celebration is that four years ago this month, I acquired Estero Lifestyle Magazine, changing the name slightly to Estero Life Magazine, and moved the entire production process from the east coast of Florida into Lee County—expanding and improving our product and distribution and creating an economic impact on our area. One of the greatest improvements during these last four years has been our partnership with the Village of Estero in producing the single-focused, positive accomplishment message from the Village known as the “Village Connection.” We are proud to serve as a trusted communication channel for our community with the many involved and interested Estero residents.

We at Estero Life Magazine are not only proud to positively represent/promote the people, places, businesses, events and activities that make living in Estero so special, but we are thankful to the many businesses, residents, organizations, advertisers and other supporters who make publishing Estero Life Magazine such a rewarding experience. A special thanks to all of our readers both in print and digitally!

That brings us to the present as we strive to continue delivering relevant and interesting content each month. Let us know how we are doing!

The No. 1 topic on everyone’s mind today seems to be the reopening of our schools. We should all be praying this process takes place as smoothly and safely as possible and that students, teachers, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, staff and parents remain safe and healthy as this new era of education commences.

Our Village Life highlights the opening of campus at Florida Gulf Coast University as we wish them a safe, happy and healthy return to classes.

Because of the extreme uncertainty that lies before us all, we have to be concerned about the emotional health and wellbeing of every student. Mental health concerns have been a major issue even before COVID-19 but are of even greater concern now with increased levels of depression, anxiety and substance abuse due to the pandemic.

To help us understand these issues and to get to know the person responsible for leading the charge for addressing mental health disorders in our community, we spoke with Dr. Paul Simeone, Vice President and Medical Director of Behavioral Health at Lee Health. You will enjoy reading his insights on this important matter.

In another area affecting all citizens of our community, the Village of Estero wants you to get involved with the upcoming 2020-2021 budget approval process! Our Village Connection this month shares highlights of the proposed budget and economic challenges presented by the pandemic. Take note of the dates/times and different ways for you to become involved!

As area restaurants resume normal operations (with appropriate safety precautions), our dining feature this month highlights several casual meal options in unique settings that offer both delicious and health-conscious menus. Not only is the food tasty; these establishments offer open-air patio dining and are operating within CDC safety guidelines—located in every corner of the community from Coconut Point to University Villages to Gulf Coast Town Center. Bon Appétit!

Until next month, remember to…

Enjoy the Good Life: Estero Life!
